SUMMARY:Training on Conducting Systematic Reviews and Developing Evidence Gap Maps
DESCRIPTION:Background \nCampbell Collaboration in partnership with the Evidence Module of the CGIAR GENDER Platform conducted a 3-day training for gender researchers at CGIAR to introduce them to the systematic review methodology and Evidence Gap Map (EGM) in social sciences. \nObjective \nThe objective of this training was to address the challenge of identifying research gaps and systematically summarizing the vast evidence available to support decision making\, and how that led to the development of systematic reviews (SRs) and evidence gap maps (EGM).

SUMMARY:Evidence for Development: South Asia 2021
DESCRIPTION:Background \nCampbell South Asia and the Global Development Network with support from the CGIAR GENDER Platform conducted this conference. It was attended by 168 participants across a range of organizations from South Asia. \nObjective \nThe objective of this conference was to promote conversations on the use of high-quality evidence to ensure that policy is driven by evidence and reasoning\, and research is translated into action. The conference focused on improving the understanding of how evidence can support policies for transformation in the South Asian region and the need for forging partnerships with governments for evidence-informed decision making.

SUMMARY:Protocol workshop
DESCRIPTION:Background \nThis workshop on Evidence and Gap Maps (EGM) presented the scientific principles\, methods\, analysis\, and reporting standards that guide the process of conducting EGMs in the social sciences. The group was introduced to the process of registering protocols\, finalizing EGM reports with Campbell Collaboration\, conducting and generating EGM using EPPI-reviewer 4 and working in groups on the titles as chosen by the groups and as registered/submitted with Campbell Collaboration. \nObjective \nThe objective of the workshop was to teach how to draft EGM protocol\, reporting standards and guidelines for evidence mapping\, understanding the uses and misuses of research synthesis and search strategies for different types of maps and registering protocols\, and conducting EGMs with the Campbell Collaboration.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Systematic Reviews and Evidence Maps: Three-day workshop
DESCRIPTION:Background \nThe evidence for making policy\, program and practice decisions is based on careful analyses and syntheses of multiple studies. The use of systematic reviews and meta-analyses are conducted across variety of questions such as extent of the problem\, the risk and protective factors\, acceptance of interventions in different populations\, what works best\, for whom\, under what conditions\, and what cost as well as how much evidence is available in a particular sector and the gaps in evidence. \nObjective \nThe aim of this workshop was to introduce systematic review methodology and EGMs in the social sciences. The course used a combination of lectures\, group work and practical sessions to introduce several topics including how to develop a Campbell Title Registration Form (TRF) for a systematic review and EGM.

SUMMARY:National webinar on Evidence for Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:Background\n\nChildren are at risk from multiple violations of their rights\, including violence\, child labour\, early marriage\, and exploitation. Responding to the need for generation and use of rigorous evidence on more effective ways for child protection\, ‘Campbell-UNICEF Violence against children map’ was created. Evidence and gap map identify areas where there is ample evidence to guide policy and practice\, and where there are gaps in the evidence base.\n\nObjective \n\nThis event explored what evidence is available and how it is being used\, drawing on the key findings of the map and the experiences from across India. The objective of the meeting was to convene a dialogue between researchers\, policymakers and practitioners around use of evidence in the area of child protection\, and the experience of government agencies and research organizations in collaborating on identifying and addressing evidence gaps.

SUMMARY:Using Evidence to Improve Child Wellbeing in India
DESCRIPTION:Objective \nDeprivation in childhood has irreversible effects across an individual’s life\, making the early years particularly important for effective investments in the health and wellbeing of children and their caregivers. Evidence helps to uncover the multiple deprivations children face in different contexts and respond to their diverse needs. To gain a better understanding of these deprivations to develop effective strategies for prevention and response\, there is a need for increased investment in generating sound evidence both globally and in India. The event included the launch of the ‘Campbell-UNICEF Mega Map’\, which maps evidence against the child wellbeing domains of UNICEF’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021. The Mega Map provides an overview of all the evidence available identifying areas of ample evidence as well as gaps in evidence. \nObjective \nThis event explored what evidence is available and how it is being used\, drawing on experiences from around the world and across India. Its objective was to convene a dialogue between researchers\, policy-makers and practitioners around the usage of evidence in policy and programming.

SUMMARY:Evidence Uptake to Action – Funder and Researcher Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:Background \n\nThe use of research to inform policy is high on the agenda. How do research funders approach funding research which will be used to inform policy and practice? And what do researchers see as constraints in achieving this?\n\nThe Campbell Collaboration hosted a roundtable to discuss the experiences of various organisations in supporting and producing policy relevant research\, and activities to encourage uptake. The participants in the round table shed light on their challenges and successes\, and experiences in translating evidence to action.\n\nObjective \n\nThe aim of the workshop was to create a platform for congregating demand\, and convergence of efforts towards ‘Evidence uptake for Action”

SUMMARY:Governance and Service Delivery in India – Leveraging National and Global Evidence
DESCRIPTION:Background \nThe Campbell Collaboration (C2)\, the Global Development Network (GDN) and the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) convened this event together with government institutions and key national research organizations. This event was organised to answer the question of whether there is more to learn from international experience to further the governance agenda in India and the consideration of international and national evidence for better governance and service delivery. \nObjective \nThe goal of the event was to discuss the use of evidence in the area of governance in India and the role of global research organizations in evidence generation in support of policy debates and decisions in India. The discussion also included identifying cross-cutting research priorities\, critical gaps\, avenues for collaboration and the experience of government agencies and research organizations in collaborating on addressing evidence gaps.
