Participating in What Works South Asia (WWSA) summit virtually for the past two years has been an incredible experience for me. To give a heads up, What Works Global Summit is an international conference focused on evidence-based policy and practice. The conference brings together academics, policymakers, practitioners and other stakeholders from around the world to discuss how we can use research and data to create more effective policies and programs.

The cripple of the event having been conducted virtually for the past two years owing to the pandemic notwithstanding, attending the event left me with invaluable experiences. The event was without a doubt organised meticulously with a wide variety of panels and sessions on topics ranging from social inclusion to climate change to health systems and technology. Having attended multiple panels that aligned with my research interests, I came back inspired and better informed.

One of the pleasant deviations from other similar summits was the emphasis laid on practical, real world applications in addition to making the theoretical foundation strong. As a researcher who likes to immerse herself in such hands on experiences, this summit indeed was an eye opener in many ways.

The summit also was a melting pot of researchers of different nationalities and academic and field work backgrounds. This enabled me to learn from the best practices and imbibe into my work methods suitable to this country. There was an overarching sense of belonging to a global community, working together towards a positive change. Trading ideas with one of the best minds in the field has without any doubt expanded my horizons. I was able to connect with several other researchers and practitioners who were working on similar issues and I felt that I was part of a larger movement to create evidence-based policies and programs.

I am happy to inform that this year the What Works South Asia conference will be held in person for the first time. Organized by Campbell South Asia (CSA), WWSA 2023 will take place in New Delhi from November 28-30. While the virtual summits over the past years were groundbreaking, I am positive that this year’s in person summit will be a smashing success, what with the opportunity for leading minds of the field being able to make a more pronounced impact on the attendees. It would be a great opportunity for the attendees as well to share their views and ideas in person in the lively debates and discussions that are lined up.

The WWSA 2023 conference is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals, discuss avenues for evidence synthesis, to learn about cutting-edge research and practice, and to contribute to a growing movement towards evidence-based policy and practice. The submission deadline for abstracts is June 30, 2023 and the selected abstracts will be notified by July 30, 2023. Click here to submit your abstract now! To all those people out there passionate about evidence based policy and practice, I cannot recommend this conference enough. So what are you waiting for?
