On May 22, 2024, we conducted a half day workshop focused on knowledge translation (KT), aimed at bridging the gap between research findings and their practical application. The event was designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge for translating complex research into actionable insights.
Workshop Highlights:
1. Participant Presentations: At the beginning of the workshop, participants presented their own knowledge translation products. This session allowed attendees to showcase their work, share their experiences, and set the stage for further learning and collaboration. The presentations provided valuable insights into the diverse approaches and methodologies used in KT.
2. Overview of KT Practices: Participants were introduced to a variety of knowledge translation practices. These practices are crucial for making research findings accessible, relevant, and usable for stakeholders such as policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: The workshop emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders throughout the research process. Participants learned strategies for identifying key stakeholders, understanding their needs, and fostering collaborations. Effective stakeholder engagement ensures that KT processes are inclusive and that resulting products are more likely to be adopted.
4. Developing Evidence-Based Decision-Making Products: Practical guidance was provided on creating products that support evidence-based decision-making. This included training on how to synthesize research findings into clear, concise formats such as policy briefs, guidelines, and toolkits. Participants also explored digital tools and platforms for enhancing dissemination and accessibility.
5. Interactive Sessions and Practical Exercises: The workshop featured interactive sessions and practical exercises to help participants apply the concepts and techniques discussed. Through group work and hands-on exercises, attendees developed their own KT plans, received feedback, and refined their strategies.
6. Networking and Collaboration: The event provided opportunities for networking and collaboration. Participants shared their experiences, challenges, and successes in knowledge translation, fostering a community of practice and highlighting diverse approaches and solutions.
The workshop attracted around 30 participants from various organizations. This diverse group included representatives from IFPRI, FCDO, JNU, Save the Children, GDN, IHD, UNICEF, Udayan Care, CRY, ICRW, and CDC, enriching the discussions with a wide range of perspectives and expertise.
